New track, video and upcoming LP from Emily A. Sprague

We interviewed Emily A. Sprague in Tape Op #171 and her 2025 LP Cloud Time landed on our year end best of list more than once. If you’ve been following Emily’s music then you probably already know that she is the primary songwriter and vocalist for the band Florist, and that she also releases ambient instrumental music under her own name. Now with her new LP, Cyano, due out October 2nd, she is singing on ambient adjacent tracks for the first time.

The first single, “Sing To," is a beautiful track and it’s nice to hear Emily combine her electronic music and her vocals.

On Emily’s Substack page she talks a bit about the new album which she has been working on for almost eight years, and how it was influenced by David Lynch as well as the photographic process of cyanotype. She details the gear used on the album, and shares a lot of cool photos, graphics, and a video of her Eurorack rig. Here’s a short peek into the gear side:

“I took a break from eurorack when I made Hill, Flower, Fog and Cloud Time, both of which were all desktop synths and live samplers/loopers. The switch away from patching came mainly due to the desire to have more of a tactile and live experience with composing and improvising. In general I try not to overthink too much about what I am using, and just use whatever I feel like at the moment. If I am excited to experiment and play, then I am more likely to make something that feels true. A variety of gear has always been helpful for me to jump around, and I have more or less settled on how my studio exists these days (with lots of different gear!). Thankfully I never sold off all my modules, and I wholeheartedly returned to the eurorack format almost two years ago, beginning a new quest for creating intricate and intentional compositions. Cyano was made almost entirely with my eurorack.”
